Access The OSAP Bursary for Students with Disabilities

Ontario Post-Secondary Students:

If you qualify for OSAP (whether you use it or not), and you are recognized by OSAP and your school as a student with a disability, you can apply for the Bursary for Students with Disabilities (BSWD). This bursary has successfully covered my coaching fees for 1-2 hours of academic coaching per week.

NOTE: If you are funding your education through an RESP, even if you are recognized as a student with a disability and have academic accommodations, you will not qualify for this bursary, and will be paying for coaching out of pocket.

Steps to apply for the Bursary for Students with Disabilities:

  1. Make sure OSAP has accepted you as a student with a disability (ADHD, ASD, Other Learning Disabilities) (you probably recieve grants and a stipend every term for your

  2. Make an appointment with your Student Accommodations Service at your school to tell them you would like ADHD/ASD-specific academic coaching, and would like to have the cost covered by the BSWD. They should help you fill it in.

  3. They will ask you for information about the coach you would like to work with or they can recommend someone.

  4. If you want to work with me, just drop me an email (connie@interpurpose.com) and I will send you a 1-pager or personalized quote depending on what they ask for.

  5. Your coaching costs can be covered for weekly coaching for every term you are enrolled.

  6. Once approved, they will send you a lump sum amount to cover the entire quoted cost. You must use all of the quoted time/expense or you will have to return the funds to the school. It’s best to keep the funds in a savings account separate from your general funds, in case you don’t use all of the sessions (I will help you track this!).

  7. I provide either the monthly PDF statement your school requires OR a statement at the end of the bursary term that lists the service, cost, day and time of service to prove you have used the funds for coaching.

  8. You can apply for this bursary every year you are in school (as of this writing).

** if you notice a mistake or difference in the process I have outlined with your school - please let me know! School accommodation offices manage these funds on behalf of OSAP, and are the ones to set the reporting processes and criteria.
